Gloss Finish
A gloss finish also referred to as sheen level describes the amount of light a stain or paint reflects. Gloss finish is the label which indicates the amount of light a paint or stain will reflect. There are several gloss finishes available today. These include; eggshell, semi-gloss, gloss, and flat. Paints having a flat finish are often used on the ceiling. A paint with a flat finish can also be effective for painting methods which result in a faux texture.

Shinier finishes tend to be more suitable for exterior and interior trims. Most paints used in kitchens and bathrooms often have high gloss finishes due to the fact that they can be cleaned easily. However, gloss finish paints often fade with time making the paint dingy and worn. Flat gloss paints are easy to retouch while glossier paints may require homeowners to repaint the entire walls.
