A knockout is a term which generally refers to a pre-scored and removable section that is meant to be cut out at the time of installation. The term often applies to electrical wiring cutouts and harnesses. Manufacturers tend to make wiring harnesses versatile enough to be easily used in a great assortment of projects. This is observable in the fact that the sides of wiring boxes have several cutouts. These are generally standard sizes which will fit with other pieces such as a flex hose or conduits.

 

The benefit is that there are varieties to choose from during installation. When buying a wire harness with several knockouts, one is permitted to remove pieces that must be removed to meet the requirements of a particular project. For instance, the wiring box can have one circle scored into the four sides. However, if just two wires will need to be taken Knockouts make the installation easier due to the fact that the options are all available. So, it mostly takes just a few seconds to cut precisely sized holes rather than spending excessive time when cutting it out.
