Knotty Pine
Just as the name suggests, knotty pine is a variety of pine wood exhibiting large amounts of knots. This wood variety was commonly used to create kitchens with rustic appeals in the 1950s. Mostly, kitchen cabinets feature a honey finish which varies from orange to red. Kitchens complementing wrought iron hardware and Formica countertops with knotty pine cabinets were very popular. Today, constructors are frequently renovating homes with knotty pine cabinets establishing it all over again into contemporary home designs for an antique feel.
The rustic visual appeal is one of only a few benefit of using knotty pine cabinets. The wood is not very durable and relatively inexpensive. Knotty cherry, an alternative for this wood variety, offers more durable and suitable cabinets which offer a similar visual appeal to kitchens as knotty pine.
