Peninsula
A peninsula is an extended counter space that is commonly featured in kitchens with a G-shaped floor plan. An island is a useful addition to the kitchen but some kitchen do not have sufficient space to feature one of a reasonable size. This is the main reason why a peninsula is a popular and practical furniture in the kitchen. A kitchen peninsula is of a similar size as a standard island, but the main distinction between the two is that a peninsular is installed against the wall or at the end of the kitchen cabinet run.
This is basically how J-shaped and G-shaped floor plans are achieved. The peninsula can be an invaluable addition to the kitchen because it adds to both the counter and storage space in the kitchen. The extra space effectively enhances the primary cooking triangle of the kitchen by offering more storage space for pans and pots and additional counter space for preparation of meals. The peninsula can also be used as a secondary meal preparation area with the incorporation of an auxiliary cooking top. A peninsula is an ideal room divider that opens up the kitchen space by replacing the requirement of a wall.
