Pressboard and Pressed Wood
These are both types of manufactured materials. These products have a slightly greater strength than particleboard. Hence, three terms cannot be used interchangeably. Pressboard is manufactured from recycled scrap papers, while pressed wood is made using scrap wood. The major difference between these materials and particleboard is that the process of pressing utilizes adhesives and heat while particleboard is made using the extrusion method.

The layering technique used in the fabrication of both pressboards and pressed wood utilizes veneers, which are thin wood sheets. Each 1/8- inch thick veneer is not strong standing alone, however, pressing the sheets together creates a board of remarkable strength. These two engineered wood materials have the advantage of being cheaper for construction projects. Though considerably stronger than particle board, these materials require the use of a laminate or skin to conceal their irregular texture. Kerf style cabinets constructed using these woods are however left exposed.
