Primer
A primer coat is a preparatory layer of paint applied on a raw or freshly sanded surface. Primer coats serve as a foundation which adheres the main coat of paint to the surface. Several materials are being used to improve cabinet design, but an appropriately applied coat of primer will help to smoothen the cabinet top finish. However, there are different types of primer coats, and not all are suitable for every purpose. Certain primers will need the mixing of several components while others are added to the top- coat type paint to accelerate the process.
A primer promotes the continuity of a painted surface which in turn helps the makes the surface look smooth and even. A primer prevents uneven absorption of the applied paint which can lead to color distortion and even ruin the finishes of porous surfaces like plaster or wood. Because all primers are not alike, it is vital to consult an expert to help with the selection of a suitable primer for any particular project to achieve a perfect blend of surface protection, sealing and color support.
