Self Close Mechanism
A self-close mechanism is a device which keeps a drawer or cabinet door from slamming shut. Such devices may be a drawer slide or hinge. A self-close mechanism is offered by a type of hardware which helps to ease the impact of a door while it closes. It also prevents injury in case the door accidentally catches a user’s finger. A self-close hinge regulates the speed of closing a cabinet door. Though these hinges appear and function like an antique hinge, the self-close feature incorporates a hinge which regulates the movement of the hinge.
When used in a drawer, the self-close mechanism reacts to the level of pressure that is applied to the front of the drawer. It therefore stops approximately 1-inch from the drawer frame before sliding close slowly. Hardware that offer the self-close mechanism can be purchased in different sizes and finishes such as brass, copper, silver, and iron; this allows homeowners to install matching hardware in the entire room.
