Shaker Style Cabinets
Shaker style cabinets are cabinet units built in a simple, unique and attractive way. They often feature light finishes, basic hardware and recessed panel doors. Shaker style cabinets are built in designs that mirrored those of the "Shakers" who were very dexterous carpenters and craftsmen. Shaker style cabinets feature recessed panel door with minimal adornment. A lot of Shaker style cabinets are constructed using hardwood though some woodworkers use veneer panels to make the doors.
The style characteristically uses light stains or natural finishes. Shaker cabinets can also be given a distressed finish to create a vintage look which enhances the beauty and appeal of the cabinets. The design is simple and hardware are often hidden. The simplicity of the shaker cabinets can be ideally complemented with the installation of wooden handles or knobs. Most times, mission cabinets are referred to as shaker style cabinets. However, the terms are not interchangeable since a number of mission style cabinets have designs and arches that are not found on shaker cabinets.
