V Groove Panel
A V-groove is a term used in reference to the shape of the visible recess on a panel's face. These cuts are a result of the alignment of two angular beveled edges opposite each other that creates a distinct and visible recession in the shape of a V on the face of a panel. One can find faux panels constructed with a V-groove which has been cut into them to create the impression of that it is a true V-groove panel, but the difference is easily noticed by flipping the panel over to see the seam where separate boards are joined at the back of the faux panel. The opposite side of an appropriately constructed V-groove panel will either exhibit an identical V- groove or a seam. A unique shaped cutting device is essential to edge a board to get an actual V-groove panel correctly.

A V-groove panel consists of boards which are connected lengthwise using the tongue and groove technique. Shims can be used to hold the joints firm in spite of variations in the thickness of wood. Both styles used in this type of panel can achieve a single or double side V-groove panel. The final result when panels created in this manner are being stained is that the groove area features an appearance darker than the surrounding area due to the fact that more stain is accumulated in the V-groove.
