Vessel Sink
A vessel sink is a type of sink placed directly on the countertop. While some vessel sinks are partly recessed, others are placed completely on the countertop. A vessel sink sits on the countertop surface. Most types of sinks require a basin that is positioned lower than the countertop while vessel sinks sit higher than the surface of the countertop. Some vessel sinks may be partly recessed in a groove, which provides some support for the sink. Others completely sit on the countertop. Vessel sinks can be purchased in a wide variety of designs, styles, and materials.

Popular options include those made of glass, wood or copper. The basins can have the shape of a bowl, though there are others that are squares, rectangular or almost flat. Vessel sinks can be added to most kitchen designs, but consumers should put their plumbing needs into consideration when choosing one. Vessel sinks require the separate installation of a faucet as they lack overflow relief drains.
