Wall End Cabinets
A wall end cabinet is a top cabinet which is situated at the end of the cabinet run and is entirely exposed at one side of the cabinet box. Because many cabinets are constructed using one or more forms of manufactured wood products such as plywood, it is therefore not recommended to place just any of the kitchen wall cabinets at the end of a cabinet run. Rather, most manufacturers construct a wall cabinet with an extra skin covering for the visible edge to conceal the part constructed with plywood.
For instance, say the kitchen wall cabinets are made of Redwood, it will be very unlikely that the cabinetmakers would deem it fit to create the frame and internal box using the same Redwood as the completed wall cabinet will be excessively heavy. Instead, the inside box and the frame would be made of hardwood and a veneer which matches the appearance of Redwood will be applied on the exterior to give the impression that the whole cabinet run is made of hardwood. Wall end cabinets are commonly used at the point where a window interrupts the run and at the entrance of the kitchen.
